AI image generation has quietly become the most useful tool in interior design — not as a replacement for taste, but as the fastest way to visualize options, test palettes, and produce custom art that fits a specific room. Here is how to use it end to end.

Planning the space

Start with the room, not the art

Before generating anything, document the space:

Photograph each wall straight-on in natural light.
Note the dominant and accent colors already in the room.
Measure available wall space for art.

Aspect ratio matters: a 2:3 portrait print above a sofa, a 1:1 square for a grid of three, a 3:1 panoramic for above a bed or console.

Scale and placement rules

Above a sofa: art should span 60–75% of the sofa's width.
Above a bed: center on the headboard, not the wall.
Gallery wall: odd numbers work better than even. Three, five, or seven pieces.

Before you print, test

Drop your generated image into a photo of the actual wall using Photoshop, Procreate, or a room-mockup tool. Then view that composite at arm's length. If it looks right, order. If it looks off, iterate — the cost of one more generation is nothing compared to a $200 framed print that doesn't work.
